Community Oral Health Services

The Community Oral Health Service (COHS) provides care to students in Kahnawake schools by a Dental Hygienist supported by a Dental Administrative Aide. The Dental Hygienist will provide dental screenings, fluoride varnish, sealants and dentals referrals to participants in schools, daycares and homes. They promote oral health practices to pregnant women, parents and caregivers of young children, organized groups and community at large. When needed, parents are notified to have their child see their family dentist. The dental hygienist also provides care to our elders living at KMHC in long-term care.

The long-term program goals are to reduce the rate of dental disease in children 1-7 years old. To also reduce the number of children who require dental treatment under general anesthesia. And to prevent dental disease through education rather than just focusing on treatment.
